As part of the Glasgow West End Festival 2014 Life’s Little Ironies in partnership with Richard Cullen staged an Exhibiton of Galloway Artisans at Mackintosh Queen’s Cross from Sunday 8th –Sunday 22nd June

Wings of Desire – Art Inspired by Cinema Exhibition

During March/April 2014 we featured art inspired by the language and narrative of the cinema – Wings of Desire . The title comes from the Wim Wenders film of the same name which is a romantic fantasy film set in Berlin featuring invisible angels. This exhibition tied in with Spring Fling and our pop-up and featured Liz Perry, Lou McGill, Tim Gray, Lisa Hooper, Jack Sloan and some of our regular artists.

Creative Me Exhibition

A short mini exhibition entitled ‘Creative Me’ was shown during May 2014 to launch the Creative Whithorn Arts and Crafts Association 2014 Trail. The collection of portraits included paintings, drawings, photographs, digital images, scultpure, textiles and imaginative contributions.

December 2013 Open Show
In December2013 we held our first Open Community Exhibition. We invited local artists and makers to provide a piece of their work to show.Our regular contributors were included  – stained glass by Lynn Morley, original paintings, limited editions prints by Kevan McGinty, wall hangings by  Fran Raw – The Mochrum Artist,  silk scarves by Elegant Originals and her new line of felted glass tealights and hanging baubles, and ceramics by Peter Wareing.We also featured work by three local printmakers – Lisa Hooper, Liz Perry and Jenny Smith-McConie. And a range of other local artists….

Art Inspired by Literature 2103

To coincide with the Wigtown Book Festival  we held our first annual ‘Art Inspired by Literature’ exhibition.

As well as having a wide range of artists showing in the main gallery in Whithorn we also had work displayed in a pop-up gallery in Wigtown.

We featured work by Judith Gray, a Welsh artist (1938-2004) including paintings and woodprints of Leda and the Swan and A Midsummer Nights Dream etching. One of her paintings featured on the limited edition poster created for the exhibition.

Other work included a series of preparatory paintings around Mordred and King Arthur by Tim Gray, an encaustic photography series inspired by Thomas Malory’s Morte d’Arthur. We had several pieces of work inspired by poetry, including seascapes by local painter Kevan McGinty and the Haiku Print series by Lou McGill, which also featured on our eco friendly fair trade linen bags.

September Mini exhibition – environmental art

In September 2013 we held a small mini exhibition to coincide with the <a href=”” target=”_blank”>Environmental Art Festival Scotland</a>. It featured photographs by Lou McGill taken around Monreith in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The show included photographs of the rock formations along the shore at Monreith and also includes some coastal details and mutiple layered images.
